Since the Mint is so into NCLT sets, why wouldn't they produce SP and PL 2013, and 2014 + coins, I'm sure this thread will cause some controversy, but has it been answered? they make a killing of their numismatics so .2 cents for a 3-4$ coin wouldn't be harmful.

I've always felt that if the mint makes 50cent coins for their deluxe sets, why not make a 2013/2014/2015 etc penny (with pink gold leaves) as well? The coins would be made silver after all.

Its not like the 50cent coin is really in circulation. Why produce one circulation coin not intended for circulation and not produce another? (Did I use too many negatives?)

So has it been stated by the mint that they aren't going to put some into sets?

IMHO they made too much of a fuss in saying the penny's time had ended to ever produce any more pennies.
I could see some pennies with later dates being made for sets - something similar to the Farewell set - but they would probably not be anywhere near the same size as the previous pennies (they'd be 1oz or larger); would be made of silver or something even more expensive; and are unlikely to be made in 2013 (though they'll probably make something based on a large cent for the sesquicentennial in 2017).

Not sure if the penny will show up in collector sets - I think not but we'll know very soon.

But I'm looking forward to a fine silver 5 cent coin with a selective gold plated beaver.

I think it would have been awesome to make a 1 ounce penny in copper.... Cheap and a different approach to their traditional offerings.

Take a look at this elegant solution that RAM made to commemorate rare Australian 1923 Halfpenny:

it is 1 oz pure silver, but covered by thin copper layer.
Looks so nice!

The same they issued for the 1930 Australian Penny:

I like these coins (the replicants).
