Anyone ever seen this before? 1974 penny with a baseball player. One is a batter. The other is either a pitcher or catcher. I can't find any info it. Anything would be helpful. Thanks Edited by eselocoss 12/09/2012 11:34 am

The process that made that is called counter-stamping, and was performed by someone that was not the US mint.

I have one with Santa Claus on it, and another with a heart with I love you written inside. Before that I didn't know Abe cared.

to the CCF eselocoss. As correctly stated above ... your coin was manipulated after it left the mint by some handy individual who had these baseball stamps available. It does not have a numismatic premium .. but most will agree that it is a cool find for the value of 1 cent. David

My favorite is still the Kennedy looking at Lincoln Penny. Got one in my " collector " coin of the month club when I was a kid.

I have one, found last summer a 1972. It is actually a batter and pitcher who is in the stretch. Funny thing about how I found it was, that it was aquired from change at the store, and NOT from my roll hunts. It was a Walk On. Ha Ha.

Welcome to the community. I agree, this coin here has been counterstamped after it left the mint.
