muddler, do you shoot your coins flat or upright? I like the way your images turn out.

CoinsKelly, my photographs have been taken with an old Olympus film camera. The coins are propped sum what upright and shot with a varying degree of success. Lately I have been using my 2012 ASE 2 coin set box for the prop/background. Someday I will get a digital camera to fit my lenses and move into the 21st century.

Nice, looks like the 20th century is working for ya! Cool idea for the background - if I can pry ours from my hubby's hands, I may give that technique a try.

Rats! I missed the day!

I really wanted to post my Franklin half because I won it from Moe in a code-breaking contest. I'll just post that page and cover the Kennedys, too!

Thanks again, Moe. It looks GREAT in there!

Larsdog, does your Statue of liberty half really have that color or is it just a reflection?

All of the clad coins get a red glow in my scanner. The Statue of Liberty, Library of Congress, and clad Kennedy are ALL just plain silver looking. Not the dull silver of a REAL silver coin - the shiny silver of a clad coin, but no toning at all on any of them. What you are seeing is completely fake and not intentionally so!

My primary hobby is stamp collecting and that scanner does an excellent job of scanning my stamp collection pages, so I don't plan to change scanners. (I have over 600 pages in my stamp albums and fewer than 100 pages in my coin albums). I don't sell things very often, but I have a digital camera with a macro setting if I need a really good image and my scanner won't cut it.

I chose the World's Columbian Exposition half dollar for a few reasons. It was the first commemorative issued and the design is strong. Lastly when I was young I was impressed that I could get a coin that was 80 years old and in great condition for relatively little money.
