Ok, so I ended up buying two MS65 Morgans to add to my set this week. I won two separate auction from the same seller about 15 mins apart. He listed shipping as $7 per coin which I had intended to pay no problem. Since I figured he could combine shipping I asked before I paid if he would combine shipping. He stated that it would cost every bit of $14 to ship the coins via USPS. Though skeptical I figured since I hadn't asked previous to bidding I would gladly pay the $14. What gets me is he later sends me an email saying shipping was $15 and for me not to worry about the extra $1 for shipping.

After 3 days I get the coins as stated, everything was perfect. But when I look at the label he must not have checked the box letting him hide the shipping cost. Well, the shipping only cost him $7. So my problem is he out right lied to me saying shipping cost $15.

My question is what kind of feedback would you leave him? Everything else in the transaction was perfect but he obviously lied to me which turns my stomach. I am not the type that will leave feedback in a wreck less manner so I am putting some thought in it first. I emailed him yesterday to get his side of the story but he has still not responded.

Thanks for the help

hey TBK, when I charge shipping I add the supply cost and transportation cost (I'm a 10K drive from any PO)

for supplies and gas it usually costs me 5-6$. he could have possibly had to pay for the box, I'm not familiar with USPS but Canada post charges for supplies. I wouldn't give him 5 stars on the shipping, possibly positive feedback still but "overpriced shipping" as a comment.

I'd knock down on shipping. I haven't sold anything on ebay in a while, but I would never do this. It is very dishonest and the seller has no integrity. Don't feel bad for stating the truth.

By the way, with jake.

I don't want to sound overly critical, but the auction did state that shipping would cost the buyer $7 per auction which is exactly what he ended up charging. You are happy w/ the coins & they got there safely. Personally, I would make sure to inquire about combined shipping costs before the auction ends next time. If you feel he went about it in an under-handed way, simply do not buy from that seller again... He did live up to the auction, so I wouldn't leave negative feedback.

If the coins were good and the shipping was prompt and he clearly stated $7.00 per coin, except for the added $1, he held up his end. I would give him positive feedback, but also state in my comments, " high shipping rate, more than quoted " That way your commending him for the rest of the transaction that went smooth but giving him and others something to think about.

How can you ding a seller for clearly stating terms you agreed to by bidding? No, the terms weren't so great, but you went along with them.

Not exactly. The seller tacked on a dollar without an explanation. The buyer's shipping fee should have been $14, it was $15.

For TBK ... if you neg him/her for this expect the seller to put you on his/her blocked buyer list. I would give the seller a low "Shipping" DSR instead and a ho-hum comment. There should have been no additional fee for shipping ... the contract was for $14. Personally I would have combined shipping. For $7 the seller could have provided USPS shipping with Insurance and tracking for that amount. It really irks me when sellers increase their bottom line via shipping fees.

I would leave positive feedback and would not include any comments about shipping. Chalk it up to an inexpensive lesson learn.

The seller did not charge the extra dollar according to the OP post. Positive feedback is due all the way. The seller held up to his/her end of the bargain to the letter.

TBK - I interpreted this to be an extra $1 surprise fee to you. After re-reading it appears the seller absorbed the extra cost and told you not to worry about it. If you paid $14 for shipping, regardless of the actual shipping cost, the contract was met. Best just to let this one be a lesson-learned. I wouldn't leave any feedback personally.

Maybe I wasn't clear. He only charged me $14 for shipping. He told me in an email that the shipping was actually $15 and not to worry about the extra $1 as he would cover it. My problem is that he told me shipping was $15 when it was only $7.23. I understand that shipping and handling are two different things as I normally charge a slightly higher fee to cover the packaging and the gas to cover me taking it to the post office. I have no problem with him not combining shipping either though I could have made him ship them individually which would have cost him more and been a waste. I just don't like that he out right lied to me and wasn't smart enough to figure out how to hide the shipping cost. And FYI I could careless if he blocks me I would never buy from him again. Thanks for the help.

I am not considering a negative but possibly a neutral

1. He stated the terms of the sale prior to your bidding and was under no obligation to combine shipping.
2. ebay allows for handling charges to be included in "shipping charges". This would be packaging, time, fuel, etc.
3. I would like to see the actual auction as the extra $1 sounds strange to me. You sure there wasn't some sort of additional fee stated in the listing?

The extra $1 could be additional cost of insurance if the auctions finished at a higher price than he'd planned. I could see a shipment adding up to over $7 if he went USPS Priority Mail, but using a Flat Rate box would allow you to ship a bunch of slabbed Morgans for no additional cost aside extra insurance. Obviously, this guy goes on the "do not buy from" list, but I find it hard to ding him for any reason. He stated terms, those terms were accepted, and he held to them.

I can see saving a buck, but time to Man Up! You can't moan about the rules of the game if you are already in the game.

I'm with the crowd saying positive feedback, no exceptions. If you don't feel comfortable with that, then I would say nothing. The seller did nothing wrong, and as others here eluded to, he may have been including considerations other than just the mailing list in the S&H.

He did nothing wrong in my book. If I drive 10 miles back and forth to the PO, I can easily make the argument just the drive cost (10*.55per mi) 5.50 just to get the pkg there, and the government that wants to tax everything would even agree with me and not tax it.

That being said, I can certainly understand if you didn't bid on any more of his auctions, and on those rare occasions that I run multiple auctions, I do combine S&H. But as already stated even by you he never claimed he would, and when directly asked he said he wouldn't, and he didn't.

I agree I wouldnt buy from him again. I would just let it be and move on. He didnt do anything wrong charging full shipping (though I would have combined it if I was him), but I do have an issue with him lying about it. If he just explained it all from the start about supplies ect I wouldnt have any problem.
