I inherited an 1885 Liberty V nickel today. I've tried taking pictures, but I can't get my camera to work. I will say that it is extremely rough looking...not good condition at all. Anybody know anything about this coin? Thanks! Alright, picture added. It's the best I could do with my sub-par phone until I can get my camera working. Sorry it's so blurry. Here's the reverse. It's worse than the front. The V is visible-ish. Edited by Tuckasaurus 12/14/2012 11:25 pm

Other than being a series key, this just sold for $73.

I hope it is better than mine... And yes, that is a 1885 V-Nickel...

Regardless, a legible date will bring $50+. One sold here recently for $90. Corroded, yes. But very readable.

Oh wow. There's no corrosion on mine. The date is completely legible. It is just extremely worn. I'm not looking to sell, but it's nice to know it's a good find.

Most cell phone cameras will work for an okay pic.

Try taking the coin out of flip your camera might focus better.

It appears the obverse is a solid G (dark) and the reverse is AG, I don't see it quite at $400, but between $300-400 retail.

This is why I am a member. I just looked to see if I had an 1885 and sure enough I do and has a perfect date and mirror background. I had no idea it was in there. Reverse is fairly worn though.

2013 red box has the 1885 @ $550 in good. This one is not good, maybe about half that?

We have no photos from the OP that are of sufficient detail to offer a grade opinion ... appears to be an 1885 based on the blurry photos. I await clear photos taken out of the plastic holder ... then we can offer some educated opinions on grade and value ... all else is pure speculation IMHO. David
