You're showing back-the-cap clashing, aren't you? I just viewed it on SsuperDdave's post "What is a VAM?".

Yes, mds;it's a die clash. I thank you for the website and the education. I'm going to study it.
Now to share the shivers that ran down my spine a few minutes ago: I mean I almost turned around to see if there was an angel looking over my shoulder. I'm not kidding. I felt like I was in the presence of something way beyond the ordinary.
1. You, mds, posted pics.
2. Several members mentioned VAM.
3. I remembered and read SsuperDdave's post about VAMs
4. Yesterday I purchased an 1898-0 MS64 Morgan.
5. I reached for it....
6. It has the EXACT reverse-die clash I saw in your coin--and more, including obverse-die clashes described in the VAM site SD posted!!
7. I've identified my first VAM in my collection. YES?
Rest in Peace

Welcome to VAMming blackjack. I guarantee you will never look at a Morgan as just a Morgan again. They are all a listed VAM die pairing/ die state or better yet, a discovery coin.

Thanks, dave700x. Yes, this is exciting and I'm filled with questions. Now when I study my coins for hours I can tell my wife I'm "VAMming." Yeah, this opens up a lot for me.

MS63. But then again, if it were slabbed 65 w/ a gold cac I'd still think it was a 63 if it looks to me in person the same as I think it looks from the pics.

(Disclaimer lol ) But then again, I'd also say you can't grade an UNC coin properly by photograph consistently, even if I got it right. :-)

I guess I'll solve the grade mystery before we get too far off topic. I don't think anybody got this one. The 64 guys were the closest.

Wow! My question: do CCs really get a bump? If so, do they still today? I had read that TPGs tend to be very conservative with high priced coins. Thanks for any reply.

WOW! Must be your obverse photos make luster grazes look more pronounced than what they actually are. Keep that Morgan right where it is.

Sell it and get a real 65. :-)

Just kidding, it probably looks much nicer in hand. I'm sure it's a very nice coin.

(But only a fool would crack it out of that holder)
