Hi lately I have decided to move into military medal collecting but I have a few questions.
firstly how do you store these medals is there a special case for them? if so a link to where I can purchase one? by the way only in Australia please preferable near sydney

secondly what are the most desirable medals? I already know about the Victoria cross and the upper classes of the iron cross I think it is with oakleaves, swords and diamonds?

thirdly how do you value them? is there a annual catalogue of sorts? similar to the mcdonalds guide for coins?

any additional tips are greatly appreciated:) thank you all very much for your help:D

I believe that medals from the one of the Maori Wars and mdeals from the Boer War are worth a bit (assuming that Australian medals is what you're into).
I think there are catalogues (there used to be a Renniks catalogue) but I don't know the specifics. Maybe check the book section of a dealer's website to see what your options are. I think whether there are names or not affects value too.
I think that nameless medals that have been engraved to increase their value is something that needs to be kept in mind too.

there are mylar holders, like 2x2, but bigger, specially made for medals.

miniature medal pockets 3 inches x 1 1/2 inches (75mm x 37mm)
full-size medal envelopes sleeves holder wallets 50mm x 110mm

the trick is when you start collecting "groups".

For these you look for Unlooped vs looped.
Looped very common, unlooped not so common. Beware of snapped off loops.
