Nice. Do you know why the BEP didn't print Africa on the African notes? John1

Nice since I am a little stalled on my coin collection, I need to work some on my currency collection. I only have a $1 Hawaii bill, and I am missing a $5 North Africa bill. I also will be looking for $100 CSA bill.

Because they were used in more places than North Africa. The North African invasion was the first place they were used. They were also used during the invasion of Italy.
The Hawaii notes and North African notes were issued for the same reason but under different circumstances. The Hawaii notes were used for commerce in Hawaii and were the only currency permitted on the islands from 1942 to sometime in 1944. They were also used to pay US navy and army personnel in the PTO. The North African notes were only issued for paying troops during the initial phases of the invasions of Axis held territory (North Africa and Italy). Once the foothold was established, US forces were paid in the local currency if available (Bank of France notes in Algeria for example and Allied Military Lire in Italy). Personnel leaving ETO for the US or to another theater converted their local currency into yellow seals before departure which was then converted into the local currency or regular US currency upon arrival at the destination.

How do you tell the African notes from regular ones? They look the same to me.

During the war Army Finance referred to the yellow seal notes as "Spearhead Currency" because it was intended to be used during the spearhead or initial stage of the invasion. After the war Colonel Bernstein, Eisenhower's economic advisor, used yellow seal notes as a negotiating tool by threatening to flood Czechoslovakia with yellow seal notes when the Czechs refused to cooperate on exchange rates. It worked and the Czechs relented. They did not want to be left holding currency that could be easily invalidated.
