Is anyone seeing these in circulation at all? I don't collect them but I have only gotten 2-3 of these in circulation since the program started. I don't think this series is as popular as the Statehood Quarters. With the economy the way it is, I think this might be the last series before the quarters goes back to a regular design. Though I am somewhat curious about the circulation grade San Francisco strikes....

I collect them... And yes I do see them in circulation. Id have to say that I actually see them daily in change. Pretty common around here, well at least the P's, but I do see the occasional D, (about one a week.)
Personally I like the ATB's better than the Statehood Quarters. I have all P, D and 2012 S circulation strikes to date, but I buy them all through a dealer, I don't pull them from circulation nor get them from bank rolls.
I actually subscribe to a pre-release, I've already ordered all P,D & S's for 2013 too, so I receive them in sets of 3 as they're released through out the year. I like the pristine ones released from the mint to my dealer better than the ones that come in bank rolls.. I actually just got the 2012 P, D & S Denali's 2 weeks ago...
What are you curious about with the S circulation strikes?

I have been away from collecting for some time now. I just find it interesting San Franciso minting circulation grade coins. Just seems kinda unexpected. They should have done this right from the start of this series if they were gonna do it at all instead of waiting a couple years into the program.

I never see them in change at all. And with those I stopped collecting quarters. Just to many different quarters now. With the State ones, then the territorial ones, now this, just to many. People must be grabbing them as fast as they are put into circulation.

Are these even available at banks? And if the only way to get these is from the mint, I doubt people will spend them since they paid a premium for them. I really have no intrest in these. When and if a regular design is resumed then I will consider collecting quarters again. I am not one who collects something just because its there. My criteria for collecting a coin is if I like the coin.

I have gotten rolls from banks. I think I am close to having a all of the ones that have been put out to date.

Banks could order BU State/Territory Quarters from the Federal Reserve during their initial release period.
They can request ATB Quarters, but there's no guarantee the Fed will send them.
So, getting a BU roll of ATB Quarters from a bank is pure luck.
The fact that anyone could walk into a bank and get a BU roll of State Quarters is what created the present over-supply of said Quarters.
Even if the Denali becomes the first ATB variety to exceed 100 million mintage, the fact that people can't just walk into a bank and load up on BU Denali rolls for face value keeps things interesting.

Paying cash for every in-person purchase has some advantages (besides no $75 gas station holds, no magnetic strip issues and no surprise card declines!). I get ATB Quarters in my change every week!

I collect them, but finding them in circulation has proven difficult.

And this is the difference causing the allusion that the ATB are not as popular as the Statehood series.

Add to that a bunch of people trying to "cash in" their State Quarter hoards (the series ended just in time for the Great Recession!), insuring most of those people won't be saving ATB Quarters...

I do not collect something just because "its there"... I only started the state and territory quarters because my father was working on the set and he passed away... So I've since finished it. But as for the ATB's... Those I actually like... I like the designs, I like the parks and I like the idea that people are getting to learn about places that are in their country that they've never heard of or know little about. I especially like the 5oz bullion versions of these coins, much better detail and gotta love silver... Lol.
TheForce: I agree, it was unexpected that San Francisco minted circulation quarters again and your absolutely right, they should have done it from the beginning instead of starting 2 years into the series. I'm not sure if you can get them from the bank, I know that the distributer I go through said I could get them faster from bank rolls but they wouldn't be the pristine coins I'm looking for.... So I'd assume banks get them. But I'd rather wait an extra week for the pristine coins.
I guess it must just be the area, but I see these in circulation daily... If I ran down to the town store (I live in a tiny town with only a general store, not even a gas station in my town, lol) I would see at least 1...
To each his own... If you guys don't like them, don't collect them... But personally I do like them... I work on my other sets far more, especially Morgan's and pre 1870's... But for the small premium it's no problem for me to pay once and receive all the quarters for the year. I like the idea of a different quarter, it's something different.. Not all, but sooooo many coins are just liberty or a pres and an eagle, it's nice to see some variety... I have the complete older set so why not something new? Everything changes, just a fact of life. Even if they resume or had continued the old style I'd be paying the same premium as these for pristine coins so I figure why not? Especially if I like them. I can literally pay for the P, D & S ATB's for the year with one days pocket change... Maybe 2... So again, if I like them, why not?
And I also believe that these, as well as the state and territory's are a good inexpensive way for people to start collecting... Especially new, young collectors.. I'm 30, but I got my 13 year old sister interested in collecting by helping her complete the state and territory set... And now she's all about working on the ATB's... For alot of younger (as well as many older) collectors they don't have the means to dump $100's of dollars on older collectible coins this is an excellent way for relatively cheap, considering the prices of older coins... There's no way many new or young collectors could complete a set of say Seated Liberty quarters as fast as they could with these, they'd loose interest before the hobby stuck. I mean it's great if someone had the means to spend 100's of dollars a week on coins but not everybody does...
As long as someone is collecting coins then I could care less what they are collecting.. I just like to see people enjoying the hobby and new collectors taking interest...

I think I'd have a different view on ATB Quarters if they were on a larger coin such as the half dollar. They are trying to fit so much detail onto a small coin and I think the designs would be better suited on a half dollar. But in all honesty I think modern US coins are rather dull. Probably why I mainly focus on Canadian coins.

I look through my change, my wife's change, my kids' change and I have not seen a single ATB Quarter in circulation in southwestern Pennsylvania. I could put together an entire Statehood Quarter collection in no time at all, but I've not found one single US Territory or ATB Quarter - ever. If I couldn't order them from the mint, I would say it was an internet hoax.

There is difficulty in accumulating these coins where I live. However, when the State Quarters first came out there was difficulty in seeing those in circulation. Now, three years after the creation of the ATB coin they seem to be more prevelant in circulation than its predecessor.

Right now I am trying to put together a series of circulating State Quarters and stashing away some good quality of circulating ATB Quarters against the time when I will be putting together a circulated album.

I'm not worrying about the relative scarcity of specimens of ATB because the odds are they will show up as the older coins become more scarce and the Fed has to release more into circulation.

Basically its the old adage of all things will eventually come to those who wait patiently (or cheat).

Western New York: only a handful of territories in three+ years (under a dozen) and I think 5 ATBs in change in 2+ years. I don't buy rolls, but heavily use cash and get decent amounts of change to look through daily... :-(

mid wisconsin, I see them pretty often. I dont collect statehood/atb quarters too much so I let them go for someone who will prize them to find as I've heard on here some people are having problems finding them in other threads before this one. I havent been looking at mint marks but if its anything like other newer modern coins I have been looking for and keeping then its probably mostly d's.
