While being a constant browser on ebay for type coins for my Dansco 7070 I come across so many holed (with holes) coins and was wondering if anyone of us seriously collect these coins with holes in them. Some are really in good condition and would probably be worth a lot of money if not for that hole. Just wondering. "The only 'dumb question' was the one that was never asked"! edgman

I do buy holed coins... mostly due to the value drops...
I'm on a YN budget, so the best coins for my money are sometimes holed..

I do and have bought holed coins but mainly 90% silver ones if I can get them at or below melt. I did buy one 1903 Morgan dollar with a loop soldered on for a chain. The coin is in nice condition probably an f-12. I guess it wasn't worn as a necklace much. I got it for about melt when silver was at around $23/oz. so that coin doesn't owe me anything.

I've bought holed large cents. They're cheap and other than the hole in very good condition.

I have come across a large number of 19th century holed dimes, Half Dimes and 3 cent silvers over the years. It seems that they have been used in, and recovered from jewelry. The few examples that I do have leave a disappointing feeling. As long as the hole itself is in EF or better condition! On a completely different slant, British Commonwealth coins of Edward V111 can be collected in uncirculated condition in a short type set, comprising seven coins, for less than $50. All are dated 1936. Makes for an interesting and historically significant set of coins.

Yeah, if the price is right holed or damaged... someone's gotta give them a good home . US gold dollars were commonly jewelryized(?) / holed. I've managed a few US gold dollar type sets at or below spot... the worst previously pictured as below VVV.

if it was 'common' silver or gold, and below spot, then I would buy for scrap.
if a rarity then I might consider it if it was dirt cheap, then have a jeweler fill it in. it wouldn't help the value much, but I wouldn't have to stare at the hole any more. other than that - NO HOLES

After reading what you all wrote, I'm second guessing my stance on holers.

I collect holed coins, but only coins that are meant to have holes. Steve :)
