After reading enworb's post on how to split a 50 cent coin, I decided to rehouse and take a closer look at my 5 cent piece halves - bought: not found, and other than seeing the ugly scratch on the obverse side... I am now not sure they're both from the one coin....
The striated pattern looks different, and when I close them together it doesn't seem to mate perfectly. Which leads to the question, if this is the case, where are the 'other halves'
Anyone got a split coin they know to be from 2 halves of the same coin to compare what it should look like?

A quick n' dirty method to see if they are mates would be to weigh the two halves. If the weight of the two is equal to that of a whole coin, they are quite possibly mates but if the weight is outside of tolerance, then you know they came from two different coins.

I have a pair of split halves and they fit together perfectly. Maybe see if they do actually "fit" snuggly. The weigh thing is definitley worth trying.
