While looking for incused flag coins, I have seen a few 2000 50c coins with a fairly large shallow dent just below the right of the union jack on the flag.
I think this is probably a strike through.
Does anyone know about these?

I do have a vague recollection of them, but I doubt that I kept any, as I used to not bother with strike through coins at all as they seemed so common. Have you got a picture?

Very common on the millennium coins. I don't think a strike through, as it is so common. A particular strike through is usually only going to be from one die and maybe for only a short time (if foreign matter dislodges).

Not sure what the cause may be. Interested to hear suggestions. I will take a pic. next one I see and post it here.

Jeff is right! All the ones I saw were identical, and strike through usually changes a little with each strike, so maybe the die had a flaw to start with.

I can't decide what the cause is, but I do remember seeing multiples of this and they all looked the same.

It could simply be a bit of cleaning rag left on the die.

PS. The topic heading was supposed to have a question mark on the end, as I am not 100% sure it is a "strike through"
