Everytime I buy a new coin I weigh, measure with calipers, and inspect with my Loupe to make sure it's legit. Well my wife thought it would be fun to get me some real coins and throw in a fake to see if I could find it for Christmas. The guy at the LCS let her borrow a fake. I wish I could keep it , but alas I must return. I honestly couldn't tell until I weighed them. I figured I'd upload pics and see if anyone could identify the fake. The diameter and thickness are all identical. The fake is 6 grams leighter than the others. Coin 1&2 Front Coin 1&2 Back Coin 3&4 Front Coin 3&4 Back

Yes I should clarify as I did not notice you posted 4 coins verses 2 and think it is the first coin pictured at top that is the fake, via 1921....

I really don't like the look of the 1901-O.

I work at gold kiosk and had guy walk up with four silver coins the other day. I held in hand each for a few seconds, and I said your Mexico silver peso is real, all the rest are fake....
He said no way that could be.....
I pulled magnet out and the three I called fake jumped from hand to magnet and I was right....
So my point, no judge like in hand. Fakes feel off in weight and too me anyhow don't FEEL metalic....

The 1901-O is the fake.
What I've been struggling with is why someone would fake that one? It's a very common coin nothing valuable about the date or mint mark.
My wife said the Coin Shop Owner said a guy come in several years ago and sold his dad's old coins and this was the only fake in the lot and the guy told him to just keep it so it sounds like it's been around for awhile, maybe decades depending on how long the old man held it before he died. It weighs 20.4oz so what type of metal would that likely be?

I'll have to guess #1 also...? Wow... I guess not... Lol... Which is why I weigh them too... I don't know why someone would fake that one either.. I wonder how old it is?

I'm thinking it's a contemporary counterfeit, back when a dollar was a fair piece of money.
