came across this in my LCS bulk bin,

NIDNEI INDIE should be NEDERL INDIE

and the date read 1014 instead of 1914

is this a fake? or was it intended to be a button / pin / jewelry piece made to look like a coin?

i did find this thread ( http://www.cointalk.com/t204229/ ) on another site (mods please note I have no intention to upset anyone by linking to another coin site) discussing a similiar "coin".

Given that both your coin and the CoinTalk coin have, actually, been used as buttons/cufflinks, I suspect they were made by local jewellers specifically for use as a button/cufflink. They are probably base-metal not solid silver, given a silver-wash or otherwise made to look silvery, and were probably sold to people who wanted to dress up nice but couldn't afford solid silver ones.

And, for the record, posting links to other forums when the discussion on those other forums is relevant to and helps the discussion here, is perfectly fine.
