Well I'm slowly running out of circulating coins to collect Lincoln Memorial Pennies Both Jefferson nickels Roosevelt dime (Non silver set) Washington quarter (Non silver set) State Quarter America the Beautiful QuartersDollar Coins Half Dollar What's the point in continuing roll hunting once I finish collecting all circulating coins? I mean I could continue getting pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, dollars, in the hopes that in one box I get one coin that I don't already have and just return the rest of the box. I mean that seems kind of silly. I took me about 10 boxes to complete a Lincoln memorial set because of the s mints which were kind of hard to find. I can continue getting pennies from the bank in the hopes that I find a Wheat cent I don't already have. I'm just saying eventually the chances of getting a species I don't already have will be very small and I'll have to start buying coins. It kind of takes away the fun as it's no long collecting coins but buying coins to complete the collection.

Obviously, from there, you'd go for the silver washies and silver roosies.
I personally hoard my silver but I know of others that roll search halves for silver, sell the silver and buy higher-end coins with it. I've found enough silver this year to buy a nice VF-XF '16-D Merc, to give you an example.

Greenprint, how far back does your set of Jeffs go? Just wondering because I am currently surrounded by a box of nickels I'm searching as I write this. I have two kids, so when I completed my first set of each denomination, I started a second one. So far I've completed two sets of the following: Lincoln memorials, Jefferson nickels, Roosevelt dimes (non-silver), Washington quarters (non-silver) through States and ATBs, Kennedy halves, Ike and SBA dollars. I currently only have one set of silver Washington quarters, Roosevelt dimes and Franklin halves, all unfinished. As for the current dollar coins, I only have one set of those going as well. Oh, and one set of Lincoln Wheats, only ~12 key dates left. The only denomination that I'm actively searching is nickels because 1.) I still haven't finished them and 2.) it's almost possible to find most dates back to 1938. But, I still go through all the change I get just to see if there are better looking examples of ones I already have. I'm considering getting another box of quarters because there is a lot of room for improvement in my pre-states circulated quarter set. And as FadeToBlack said, you can always roll search to find silver to pay for other higher-priced coins.

I search pennies and sell the copper ones for 2c each, to a guy who goes across the border to melt them down. :)

I search penny for 1972-DDOs, 1983 DDR, 1999-WAM, 1995-DDO. I have gone through many boxes and not filled a hole in my wheat album. I just hoard many common wheats and so I can search them for DDOs or DDRs later.

Quote: What's the point in continuing roll hunting once I finish collecting all circulating coins? This is one reason why I quit roll hunting. All of the easy holes were filled, silver finds were becoming rare, and I lost my insider at the bank.

Is every clad coin in perfect condition? If not, it's time to find replacement coins...coins that are nicer than the one's in your book.
It's kind of funny to me that you ask this question. I don't even have "one of every coin". I don't even have books for clad coins but I still find plenty of good reason to hunt.

I'm working on a BU Jefferson set from circulation, only missing a few dates after 1954 now. As far as nickels in general, I've got a full set going back to 1929, also from circulation.

i want collect all circulating coin species first through coin roll hunting and what I'm saying is that eventually all my folders are going to be full and that the chances of finding one coin a box that I don't already have will become very rare. like I could continue getting boxes of pennies but the fact is that the chance of getting a coin I don't already have is very low and it no longer becomes fun

I am at the point that I can't find any hole-finder from boxes anymore. But I do find 1909-vdb, 72-DDO that I can easily sell on ebay and use that money to buy the coins I need. In the meantime I still get the "thrill" effect.

Careful what you admit to on the internet! Big brother is always watching!
EDIT: Not sure if Canada has as nosey of a Big Brother, but I'd still err on the side of caution

It's not illegal, because they're not melted in Canada, and it's only Canadian coins. :) Love them loopholes!
