Of course you can! Only caveat I can think of is that you must send me the map.

Gold is so chemically inert that even putting it in salt water will do little to it. That's one reason gold is loved: it doesn't tarnish or rust. Bury away, but remember where you put it! Happy Hunting!

Will even MS 70 coins in the dirt after 50 years still be MS 70?

To what end would you be burying your coins?

I would like a little more clarification before I respond to this post.
You have a jug full of gold coins? Are they raw? Slabbed? What kind of coins are they?

Possibly if its well protected and covered in the ground, if its raw theres very little chance if any But seriously a 30 gallon drum of gold coins? Whats that worth like a million dollars?

One time when I was about 28 years old, I was traveling with my wife and little kids through an area out in the deep boondocks where I had gone on a Boy Scout "Camp-O-Ree" (anybody remember that term?) about 15 years earlier. The spot where that council campout had been held was a really cool spot in (what was then undeveloped) pretty deep woods with a small lake in one end of the area, so I decided to see if I could hunt down the old spot and show it to wifey and the kids.
I found it. There was a giant, sprawling elementary school complete with playgrounds, expansive lawns, etc in our cool old deep woods Boy Scout Camp-O-Ree spot.
Moral of the story---burying your stash may over the long haul not be the best idea you ever had.

Right now, 30 gallons of gold is worth $117 million. There are much better places to put that much money than buried in the ground.

Yeah sure you do, maybe the new gold dollars you know the ones worth a dollar but I highly doubt you have a barrel of gold coins. And if you really do you would have to be crazy to bury them all in one spot or buried them at all really. And most likely no an MS70 is hard to keep MS70 wo being slabbed let alone being buried in the dirt.

I'll take a copy of the map too. Or volunteer to help you bury them even.

Why would you bury them in the ground? But that's your decision, just make sure you call Bell before you dig. :D
