Yeah yeah yeah, the pictures are awful but I do not have time to get out the good camera so I took these with a USB camera which isn't really set up to do the job yet. It pains me to post such terrible pictures

I'm new to VAMs and am trying to go through a large number of Peace and Morgans quickly (like today).

Do you think this is doubling on the olive branches/leaves and the tail feathers? VAM3 or not?

Thanks for looking :)

Based on the available evidence, I like it for VAM-3.

Note: I'm sure you've seen the VAMWorld page for this variety, and noted the ludicrous selling price for the PCGS 65 example. That was from 2008, and it hammered at 4x the previous record for any 1922-D in MS65. This result illustrates an important factor in VAMming - at the time, it was the highest-known grade for a VAM-3.

That may no longer be true; in fact, there may be another half-dozen 65's. Heck, there could have been half a dozen of them in 2008, and nobody the wiser, because there are those in VAMming who have a vested interest in keeping prices high.

So be very wary when considering stated rarity and value.

Yep, VamWorld is my one-stop shop for VAM info right now. I *just now* saw the page listing values. That helped since I'm not going to look for every last variation described-- just the ones that may connote added value and those can be set apart from the bulk sale pile until further study. My strategy so far has been to look at the VAM listings by year, click on pictures/info for VAMS recognized by PCGS and the others, skipping the rest. That is speeding things up. My USB camera and computer setup is giving me fits. I just switched to Mac and so there are the usual problems with that, plus the USB scope pictures show up as mirror images, making it just a little harder to position and interpret. Not hugely so, but with the volume of VAMs and coins each few seconds adds up :/

Clearly there's no way I will be able to finish inspecting each Morgan and Peace for valuable VAMs today. New plan. Going to take those with me and work on it at a more leisurely pace. Well... maybe I'll just look at a few more before moving on to the next coin task, lol.

As I've said before, we will keep some. We've sold most of the gold (wasn't that much) and will sell the common silver. I'm hanging on to any interesting or valuable coins, some for slabbing and then selling, some to just keep.

That's what I'd call it. VAM 3
