Just got this coin in, It is a nice high AU low MS 1887 Morgan. I bought it because of all the die breaks, but it has more going on than that. The whole bottem of the hair is either weakly struck or struck through something. The neck also has a large raised line on it and there are some peculiar marks above the date and just below the hair , as wells as a bulge un the lower left of the first 8. Clash marks on both sides too!

That line on the neck is something I have observed on two different 1887-P's which have passed through my hands. Mine are less sharply-defined than yours; I'm theorizing that it was a hub defect which led to the retirement of the hub since many more 1887's don't show the feature.

I definitely have to think you're looking at a grease strikethrough for the hair. It's the only reasonable explanation for the lack of detail on a coin showing very darn little wear otherwise.

Very interesting coin.

1887-P VAM Not Assigned Varieties

But it's an unlisted feature on VAM 1F & VAM 14 for that year.

Check and see if your matches.

Rest in Peace

Looks like a VAM13A to me possibly struck with a greased die or struck through... Very cool...
