My first half dollar box and I pulled out 6 silver half dollars between the years 1965 and 1969. Is this a good find?

Free Silver? You bet thats a good find. I see a lot of people getting just the 1 silver per box, so this is a good score. EDIT: Gosh, where are my manners?

Thanks. I am just now getting into this hobby because of the Obama administration.. no reason to go into detail over that. I'm also saving and buying nickels as the copper is going to be removed from them next year. I might put more time into this and see what happens! its fun!

Is that a good find? Why yes it is, a very good find indeed. Quote: I might put more time into this and see what happens! its fun! When you come back down to earth I want you to remember this one thing. There are going to be a whole lot more boxes with nothing at all in them than there will be with keepers. It will be very easy to get discouraged after a while, so if that happens just keep telling yourself this, I'll search one more box.

Is there anything else I should be looking for other than silver up to the dates 1969? As in 1970 to present?
Also what other boxes should I search other than half dollars?

I've done over 50 boxes of halves and haven't yet found even one silver. I think if I ever pulled 6 out of one box that my head would explode if I didn't have a fatal heart attack first. Don't plan on 6 per box as being your ongoing average.
Nonetheless... Congrats on a super box and good luck with future boxes.

I wont lie if I went through 20 boxes with nothing I don't think I would be going to box number 21.

That is an excellent box. If I find one 40% per box I'm elated. Halves on the west coast are lousy. They have gone rapidly downhill over the last year Congrats on a nice box

Don't exclude 1970. Those would be silver too!

How much does a box of half dollars cost? How many are in there?
Thanks.

Also, one other question...do you just roll them up and take them back to the bank after you've checked them? Do they ever give you a hard time about taking them back?
Thanks.

Dave Dave, a box of halves is 1,000 coins and the cost is $500. When returning, you can either re-roll, or use a counting machine if your bank has one. It's common courtesy to NOT return your coin to the same bank you purchased from. Depending on the volume you search, the bank should have no reason to give you a hard time for returns, not that it doesn't happen on occasion.
