I just recently bought an 1886 s NGC graded MS64. I received it today in the mail, a d I was looking at it and there isn't a mint mark on the reverse. It was my understanding that "S" mints always had a mint mark. I looked at pics of the 1886 S online and it has a mint mark. But when I used my NGC iPhone app that scans the bar code the pictures it brings up of the coin show no mint mark. I am confused. Any comments welcome. Thanks in advance.

It is possible that ngc put the s on the label by accident, its been known to happen and probably the most likely explanation. I'm not aware of any of the s cc or o morgans not having a mint mark on them

Does it look like this? An NGC slab places an "S" on silver dollars designating them silver. There would be a second S right next to the date on "S" mintmark silver dollar slabs.

no mint mark, no S mint, pure and simple. Someone mistook the silver designation for a San Francisco designation. Return it, because I am sure you paid a premium for it.

This, posthaste. An 1886 Philadelphia coin in MS64 is about $75. An 1886-S in 64 is worth ten times that.

Shadowtrooper yes that is what it looks like. I paid for the price of a "P" mint coin not "S" so luckily I didn't get jipped. Thanks for the help!
