I just noticed on my 2010 Silver Proof set that the Sacagawea coin doesn't have a date on it. I did a quick ebay search and it looks like the 2011 doesn't have a date either. I find it a little strange they're not dated...can someone shed some light? Thanks. Dave

The date on 2009-present dollars is on the edge.

Well thank you for educating me in another newbie moment There's a lot of writing on the side. Since they are in the OGP, I hadn't noticed anything on the side. Thanks for the info. Dave

I think the edge incusing of dollar coins is pretty cool.
My complaints are:
1) It's impossible to read if it's in any kind of normal storage (flips, folders, albums, etc.). I'd like them to do that and put the mint mark / date on the obverse or reverse. Why only in one location on the coin? 2) Because the date/writing is recessed, it seems to collect gunk and schmutz too. The characters on the edge of a coin are tiny to begin with (yes, I know, it's a security feature) but when they get filled with dirt, they're difficult to read. Again, why not have the MM/date on the obverse or reverse as well?

I believe that is correct.

Maybe they feel the date is not readily needed as they are having yearly design changes having each design associated with a particular date.

Quote:I think when the mint switched the date to the edge they started calling the Sacagawea dollar the Native American dollar. Technically, it is an entirely new series since the reverse now features an annual Native American-themed design instead of the eagle on the Sacagawea dollar.
