I always seem to find Canadian dimes and quarters but this was the first half I have acquired. I forgot to photograph it before the flip so it's not the best images.

Nice one! VF+? Now you just need a matching Newfoundland 1917 half! :-)

.....or if I had about 33,000 of these I'd be a millionaire.

Speaking about Canadian half dollars, did anyone happen to notice the HUGE error made by the author, Peter Mosiondz, Jr. in the latest Canadian Coin News. See the article he wrote on page 15 about Victorian halves, however, I won't mention what the error is. I wanna see who here is the first to notice it! Glenn

@Glenn Yes, I noticed the mintages were unbelievably high for 1871 coins. 200,000,000 50 cent pieces from The Royal Mint and 45,000,000 from the Heaton Mint? That mintage is much higher than Edward VII, George V, and George VI 50 cent pieces combined. Only problem is, Charlton also reports the same numbers. Surely it was 200,000 and 45,000?

It has to be some kind of a typo with Charlton Cat and a miss print by C,C,N, staff. If those were the real mintages, trust me the availability of Mintstate examples would be a dime a dozen! Glenn

Yep its a mistake the CCN did, in my UA catalogue (not as good but still works for me) its says in 1871 they made 200 in (1000s) and a 1871H 45 (thousand)
