I made a plan a while back, when the price of 5c piece sets were going for ridiculous prices to noodle 50 sets of them... you know, for the next time they announce they are scrapping the 5c piece, or getting rid of it - either way, I needed 3 x 1972 for a long time, reason being when I'd noodled I'd been on other demoninations
But picked up $100 yesturday, and EUREKA! Got 4 to finish my 50 sets.
I had a quick look on the bay to see what prices doing, and was a little surprised to see them at $3-5ea --> I'm sure they were all getting over $10 a year ago.

I noodled $140 last week and got "zero" 1972 5 cents. So they are still very hard to find.

I guess thats the problem with a coin that is still in circulation. If the price goes up. more people start noodling and the market gets flooded with them. It will be interesting to see what happens when the 5c does eventually get scrapped. I have a feeling there are people sitting on huge hoards of them.

Even if there are large hoards and they dont appreciate quickly they will be the key date in the 5c series and will appreciate sooner or later IMO

I guess you could see the 1972 5c the same as the 1968 1c & 2c because people are willing to pay for them. The 1 & 2 cent coins aren't wanted (in general) like the Pennies & Halfpennies. If you look for bulk 1 & 2 cent lots on the Bay, you'll find bugger all, whereas Pennies & Halfpennies are a much different story.

I guess we'll have to see where they end up.
I've got 51 circulated... wouldn't mind 100! Even if they only ever got back to $15 bucks, thats a cool $1500 ;)

I might be addicted ozcoins. I got another $100 today from the bank.
I'm a school teacher, and work about 35 minutes from school which has it's own bank, so during term I use that branch. But the Bathurst commbank ladies expect me in there every holidays. Is that sad that they know me as the noodling teacher?
One of the girls was excited today when she told me she had a huge amount of copper. I was stoked! Then she said $6.72... I was hoping she would have meant 30 bucks!
Nancy; I meant if I had a 100 I'd have $1500!

I started off searching 5c too.... Also with an aim of making up oomplete sets, I have not made sets up yet, but have kept "nice" coins to do it later. Now I am searching 50c - mainly looking for 2000 incuse flag, and 2010 rotated.

You wouldn't believe it, pulled another $100 out of bank ... ... 7 x 1972 1 x $2
What a bargain bag.
Also got 7 bucks worth of copper. 2 x 1968 1c, 1 x 1968 2c, 1 x 1968 2c NO SD! :)

I don't think I have ever found more than 3 and have found none quite often. Well done!

I had one $200 lot which the teller said an old lady had brought in. There was not a single coin older than 1998. I cant remember the exact number of 72's that I found but it was over 20.
