I'm contemplating a cleaning at some point but its fooling me
i think if anything it was soaked in something because there's still a bit of luster so the entire patina wasn't stripped

i dunno
fire away if you would on surfaces
grade details maybe AU
thanks

My guess is XF Details Cleaned and Damaged. Although part of the problem could be with the imaging, this coin has some bad things going on and XF Details remaining.

- Spot on! There are two rather distracting pits on the reverse one over the wreath and the other over the D in dime. It's scratched on the reverse pretty good (unless they are die cracks, they don't really look like it). The head of liberty looks like she was shaved off or hit by something large like a silver dollar, that could be just discoloration. But better photos is always helpful.

Grade-wise, aside from the details issues above, I wouldn't go above XF, the surface is just too beat up. The devices, apart from the lighter struck reverse are in pretty good shape on the plus a lot of detail is there the wear is minimal, close to AU in that department. I do see the patina you mention showing through in the shot, and that helps, I imagine it's a bit darker than the photos in hand?

I wouldn't want to be in this coin for more than $30-35 personally. I think it would wholesale at $15-24 to a dealer, since it is not without problems and not very rare in the set.

I don't think it's AU. Not even sure it makes XF .
High VF to low XF IMO.

I could go with EF details, but the feel of the coin is telling me that something more harsh than a soak was done to the surfaces.
