Ok so I am wanting to start a bust half collection with just the dates not all of the different varieties and I want to only do it from 1808-1839 and all in good-4 to very good. How much do you think that a set like that would cost me if I take my time and put it together?
Thank you all

I just did a quick back of envelope calculation using Numismedia prices. There are 30 coins if I counted right and it looks like G-4's average $60-75 or so - so you could probably do this set for $1500-2000 is my guess. That'd be an awesome set in my opinion!

One more thing - you may not be able to find all the coins in G-4 so it may run you a bit more depending...

The 1815/2 is the only half dollar produced for the year and a G4 will run about $1,000 by itself. Similarly, the 1836 was produced as a CBH as well as an RE and the RE will also run about $1,000 in this grade.

Missed the 1815. Ouch!

You could probably do just the lettered edge 1836 since it is a date set only.

Yea I would probably just do the lettered edge 1836 and skip the 1815.

I like the look of them when they are very circulated so I think that if I put a set together in G-VG then ill really like it. I could do better grades and take my time but I think they look better in lower grades IMO

Are there any albums for bust halfs that have only the dates? I know dansco makes the 6151 but that includes all of the varieties I only need a date set album

You could always get the 6151 and then put any duplicates into open slots. It's not a perfect solution, but it might work nicely.

Why are you leaving out the 1807? I can understand the 1815 because of the very high cost, but why the include everything else and leave out the one year, 1807?
