Just for a reference point, here's my Capped Bust half dollar list with grades (FYI: I used the Dansco 6151 (Vol I and II) as a collection guide...).

All told, I'm about $12,000 into it. (And, IMO, worth every cent/penny!! I love these guys!!)

Does this help?

I wish you the best on your quest for a set. I chose to go with a few individual coins of higher grade for my collection. They are really beautiful pieces of history.

Unknown. None seem harshly cleaned but, I'm sure, many of these have probably been cleaned at one point in their lives.

Voshus007, Congrats on your new coins! You're off to a nice start.

My recommendation would be to take it slow, and try to acquire quality grades, and varieties as well. The Capped Bust half dollar series is loaded with repunched dates, stars, and letters; die cracks; and other varieties.

Here is an 1813 Capped Bust half dollar with a die clash above the date, a die crack through the hair, a repunched star to the right of the die crack, and a notch in the last star.
