I started buying these about 15 years ago and noticed some of them were different, so I purchased the book. My problem today is my eyes aren't what they used to be. But I'm glad I had them marked correctly. This is perhaps one of the most beautiful coins ever produced. I have quite few pre 1780 Maria Theresa coins as well.

This is my latest MTT acquisition from a French seller today. It is a a Paris strike but a later strike at 1949-1955/60 according to the Lexicon by Hafner.

I examine it carefully, it is of the same die as another earlier Paris strike at 1937-42 (my last coin shown). They are of same size, 40.8-41.2mm. The most noticeable difference between two Paris mint MTTs is the edge arabesques, several arabesques of the latter strike are broken (see pictures below).

The other minor difference is the later strike is a proof struck specimen. The edge letters of the later strike is up-side-down with respect to the early strike.

Thanks for posting that Henry. I also picked up what looks very much like a proof Paris mint(2nd variety) example a few years ago I have found no written record of Paris mint producing proofs....I wrote to them once but they never replied. Given you have found a Proof like example it gives me much more confidence that Paris mint did produce proof strikes

Yes, I am sure it is a proof or proof-like issue, not an ordinary type.

The proof I posted was claimed by a German coin dealer to be the first proof. It is different from all of the other proofs I've seen. When I have some time I will take much better pictures. Also, I need to find my other proof.

This is the newly acquired modern MTT today. I think it is a Brussel strike in 1952-55. The most prominent features for my conclusion are i) 7 pearls in the diadem, ii)the unique saltires and iii)the characteristic of the edge arabesques. See you agree with me. Please comment.

Diameter of the coin 39.7-40.0mm
