For those of you who already have a regular stapler just use a pair of pliers. John1 This post is really in reference to a 2x2 not a flip. This is from the glossary flip This has two meanings. First, it is the term for the plastic sleeve in which coins are stored. Also, it can mean to quickly sell a recently purchased coin, usually for a short profit. (The plastic flips used to submit coins to PCGS are not recommended for long term storage unless they do not contain PVC. Care should be used with the PVC-free flips as they are very brittle and can damage the delicate coin surfaces).

I was having a good long and in depth conversation with myself regarding this topic And WE decided to order some staple type 2x2's and try using them WITHOUT staples, My 2x2 albums are a pretty snug fit. I'll get them in a couple of weeks and let you know how it works out

Without stapling the 2x2 don't you risk having the coin move around and getting "rubbed" by the 2x2 holder? John1

I think coins in a 2x2 that's not secured in some fashion will eventually fall out of the normal viewing area.
If your binders are stored vertical, then the coins would probably fall to the bottom. #1 - Stopping at the fold (if used with open end at the top) #2 - Stopping at the bottom of the pocket (if used with open end at bottom or edge) If your binders are laying flat, option #1 would help contain the coins. Using option #2, the coins might spill out if tipped past horizontal.

I ALWAYS store my 2x2 albums flat, No stress on the binder and the coins stay where you put them If you have an album with 200 plus silver coins in it it simply HAS to be stored flat

I bought 5 pages of coins from someone who does not staple the 2x2 and the coins stayed in place just fine. Binders flat. Mylar stretched out to hold the coin in place in the circle.

For circulated coins I use 2x2's with a flat stapler, but for UNC, PF and Silver I use the 2x2's but scotch tape on the 3 open sides to stop any air from getting in. Well a least I hope the air is not getting in.

The pliers I use have micro grooves but I guess you could grind/file the grooves off of a regular pair of pliers. John1

Thanks for the flip-tip-tip about using the flat pliers. I will retire the hammer. Besides , my head can't take anymore.

I believe tape or any other adhesive near the coin is a no no. The adhesives have different chemicals in them that can cause ill effect to your coins.
