If money were not a factor, the MS65 will have better resale value. From the pictures, I like the eye appeal of the first coin better, but I think it may just be poorer pictures of the MS65 coin.

Buy the coin, not the slab. Coin No. 1 is more visually appealing that Coin No. 2.

I like the eye appeal of the MS-64 better, for half the price.

I agree with the majority, the MS-64 looks better to me too.

Dittos. The first thing I thought of was the 64 looked a lot better and had more eye appeal. If the 65 had more of a "Woody' appearance I would have chosen the 65.

Honestly, for the money, I would not get either one. I have seen nicer 64s for the same money. And that 65 looks scratched more than woody to me. Definitely would pass on both.

I have to disagree. S-VDB's aren't exactly uncommon, so if I'm going there, I'm looking for something different. It's overlit; I'd expect it to be somewhat darker in-hand, and that will make the "woody" effect all the nicer. I take the 65 over a generic-looking 64 with something suspect in the upper left quadrant.
With that said, the asking price is almost $1000 higher than the check I'd write for it (as if!). Further, I'd expect to get a 64RB for less than $2000.

I'd choose the one in the slab as these are faked and I have seen some very good fakes

Well, if I am being totally honest, the 1909-S VDB I want occupying the hole in my Dansco will come from VF-EF territory. Although, the one that will probably occupy that hole is more likely to be VG-F.

I'd have to sell a kidney to play in this sandbox.

I am hoping I will not have to go that far. Maybe AG-G is more realistic.

Coin #1, MS-64RB... better looking coin in my opinion.. the other one has a bit of woodgrain which is not the best looking if I was buying it, no#1 has better looking 'wheats' and better strike. Not that it makes any difference, I couldn't afford either one.
