I'm new to coin collecting. I was drawn in recently by inheriting a collection that as I'm organizing is up to over 700 coins of all denominations and I'm not even through the 1940's! Anyway now that I got the bug, I've made a few purchases. Some of the purchases are newer uncirculated coins which are in sealed pouches. What do others do? Do you take them out so you can put them in your albums? Then do you lose the provenance that they are uncirculated? Or can real experienced collectors know that these are uncirculated simply by the condition? I know enough about grading that there are ways.

Many people here remove coins from their original packaging to place them in their albums. I am hesitant in removing "proof" coins from their protective capsules for fear of damaging their fragile surface just be careful and even wear protective gloves to preserve the pristine condition of your coins.

I think you'll find opinions about "setting coins free" vary considerably from person to person. Some prefer to keep mint and proof sets in original government packaging, while others break them out for albums. I know some people buy two mint and proof sets each year: one to break apart and one to keep together.

Really, the choice comes down to what you like best.
