I've posted this set sime time back, but now I've photographed them all individually. Some of these look like gold pieces. I've debated whether to get them graded or not, but I'm guessing they would come back MS-64 through 66, with no FS. Hope you like them! https://picasaweb.google.com/102006...WarNickelSet

I don't think there's anything that tones as nicely as Jeffs, and that beautiful gallery is proof. Those are some glorious coins. Unfortunately, I also think I have to move this to Modern US coins.

I don't say this on here often (not near as much as I should) but I am jealous. Awesome

It was a fun set to get, from a good seller on Yardsellr of all places. I think those days are gone from that site, now it's full of hucksters selling copper and yes, aluminum bullion! Add people selling common date Morgans for $42 and acting like the know the market and you have the recipe for ripoffs. I'm glad I caught the short-lived 'good old days' on Yardsellr.

It is always a pleasure to view any coins you have for us. Your vast collection of graded specimens truly are amazing, love that vibrant colored 1818 half!

Elmer? You say no full steps. I might disagree. Two of them look like they are but every coin of your set has really nice strikes especially on the steps. I have a PCGS MS65 set and some of my strikes are not near as nice as yours. Could be the toning that brings it out. Nothing like a toned Jefferson. Did you buy a full set or piece by piece? Have not seen a set that nice yet and that includes my own which does have some full steps. I personally would not get them graded. My opinion only. Again, beautiful set. edgman

edgman,
I got that as an 11 piece set in an old white Capital plastic holder, the one where the plastic screws hold it together. What's funny is that the screws have turned almost the same shade of color is the nickels. For < $70, I think I got a bargain for these coins.
I do think that a few of them are close to FS, but there are some small breaks here and there. I'm also working on a PCGS MS-67 set of these (FS or no FS), and some dates are hard to come by.

Elmer If your looking for MS66 or 67 I recommend looking in collectorscorner.com. Its part of the PCGS site. Was up there looking yesterday (Sunday) and they had quite a number of 66 and 67 war nickles available. These are PCGS slabbed though. Didn't know if you were looking for slabbed or not. Don't know how you could improve on the set you got. The price you paid was great also. Love that toning. Only problem with slabbed coins is they usually wont tone like that. edgman

Beautiful set! I was told that plexiglass would not tone coins. So are the Capital holders some other plastic or is it just that the holders are not airtight? I made a plexi holder for my Franklins years ago (1970s) and the better ones seem the same as what they were when put into the holder.
