Yep There are a whole lot of things that look wrong on the right one. One of the stars looks like an asterisk.

This person that bought that coin is in for a bad surprise. Should we let ebay know about this?

The seller seems to sell a lot of nice coins.I cant comment on the authenticity as I do not know jack about Morgans but no red flags to me.

So you think it might be genuine? If it is That was a smoking deal. I don't know enough to say for sure. I do feel very glad I didn't bid on it.

All I'm saying is the seller raises no flags to me. I have no idea if it is real...do not do Morgans.

I guess if the guy moves allot of high end coins, he may not have looked at it too close. It is an 1895 though. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I would have sent that one to a TPG. Only a complete novice wouldn't know what that date means.

Quote: Only a complete novice wouldn't know what that date means. Only a complete novice would think that date is correct. Regardless of the slam-dunk physical appearance, it's in the wrong location. It's fake. And as for the seller, he's got 400 Feedbacks for purchases and a grand total of 6 as a seller, all in the last 6 weeks, and only three of those were coins including just one US coin. He's a buyer of gemstones, not a coin dealer. Not exactly an encouraging record to trust his authentication skills.

Coin is a DEFINATE COUNTERFEIT. The easiest way to spot this common counterfeit is to look at the fonts on the reverse. Look at the "T" and "E" in STATES. The bottom of the "T" and "E" on a real Morgan is straight horizontal.....this counterfeit has the fancy curvy fonts which can be seen at the bottom of all the letters.

Here's the company's home page: http://www.germesgems.se/Looks like it's a russian lady living in Stockholm....I can get lots more info on her if needed, like if she was coning a fellow CCF....but I don't think anyone here is that stupid.

amida, Don't feel bad, I had thoughts of bidding on this and that would have been a different conversation. "If this isn't nice I don't know what is"
