1895-p Morgan dollars do exist. IIRC they were only issued in proof, and the last one I saw for sale online was for $47,500

Looks fake to me- 9 doesn't look right. Besides, these were proofs and should look like proofs even if one managed to escape and get into circulation. I've seen circulated proofs of other denominations and they still have the mirror like appearance even down to lower grades

I agree with mycrob. And if you VAM it, you'll see that the date placement is 'off' from this example.

I don't think it is real. The 5 in the date looks slightly smaller than the other digits, the hair detail is weak, and the rims don't look squared off. It is abrasively cleaned which may be an attempt to hide something.

I find it hard to believe that someone would spend $660 on this coin.

The fact that this coin only pulled $660 shows that most people knew it was fake.

That very same seller had a high grade 1836 Gobrecht for sale about a week ago....sent him a message, so the action is still logged in my outbox even though the auction was pulled shortly after I wrote him.

Quote: shows that most people knew it was fake. Hopefully the winning bidder was no exception to this and this is one of those auctions the winner has intention of paying.

I't got me exited for for half a second, then reality set in. If anyone in the forum was the buyer please let us know what you find out about it.

This has allot of abrasive marks on it. Maybe to hide a scrubbed mint mark?

Looks kind of like a cast copy to me. That could explain what Doubl3Eagle already pointed out about the surfaces. Quote: It is abrasively cleaned which may be an attempt to hide something

Given the date, ain't no chance it's real.

Someone just bought a dull sour lemon. The thought flashed through my mind to bid on it also.

They did make business strikes of the 1895, but none are known to exist and are assumed melted.
