Hi Everyone,
I have recently joined and have been checking this site out as a non member and it is a great source. I wanted to say to start I have pre-decimal coins dating back to the early 1800s and up to the 1960s but I am looking now at getting into decimal note and roll/coin hunting.
I would like to know the key dates that I need to know for decimal I know a few off by hand like the 66' wavy 20 cent and the dollar mule but I want to know what other dates and notes I should look for.
thanks CoinStew

CoinStew. There is a list in another Thread,if no one replies I will find it and post a link. The 1991 50c Rams Head is one coin that has surprised me,its value continues to rise,i noticed some Unc. coins go for $10 each on ebay and around $5 for circulated ones.I had a couple of ice-cream tubs full of them when I was running a Service Station in the 1990's,they weren't in demand until ebay started in Oz and have risen in price ever since.

Welcome from me too. Have a look here for a starter list for 5¢ https://goccf.com/t/39455&SearchTerms=lookIf you don't have one then a catalogue is worth obtaining. McDonalds or Renniks -I prefer Macca'a but others Renniks. Plenty on ebay and your local library may have copies. Some more worth keeping in other denominations; •1991 ram'shead 50¢ •any Centenary of Federation (20¢ or 50¢) in reasonable condition •1995 UN 20¢ and 2001 Bradman 20¢ •any pre 2000 50¢ commemoratives in good condition •1985 and 1993 50¢ •1971 20¢ •$1 commemoratives in good condition •any early year (say pre 1980) coins in much better than usual condition Many coins have varieties that are worth more than the normal ones, particularly 2000 incused millennium 50¢ and 1966 wavey 2 20¢. Have a poke around the forum and you will see plenty of information about them. That's where a catalogue is handy too. Also, have a look at threads about error coins. Some can be worth big money -especially 2000 $1 mule- but you need to know what to look for. That should be enough now to thoroughly confuse you. [Plenty more I could have listed.] I know there are other threads with some good lists but I couldn't find them with a quick search. Jeff

CoinStew Have fun with your "noodling" ! I purchased 10 rolls of 50 cent pieces from the bank today. Will noodle through some of these rolls under strong lamplight tonight. Luck to both of us . Squire

6 nice coins - so I think your noodling has attained a degree of success CoinStew. I am always updating the coins in my collection with equivalent coins in better condition when I find these during my "noodling". For example, I recently found a 1997 Smithy $1 in near uncirculated condition (see pic below). This now has "pride of place" in my collection of $1 coins. Squire

Very Nice Squire, the 97' Smithy is good, In the 1 dollar rolls I got today many of the coins I had the commemorative where either very dull colour like very brown or either worn not to my sort. Do you just get security rolls or mint rolls?

I simply visit a local bank ask for rolls (or bags) of coins. It is always a pleasant surprise to see a "jewel" of a coin amongst the brown / worn / tarnished / battered coins from time to time. Squire
