OK...I have gone back and looked and cannot find a post about something unique or valuable regarding the 1950 Jefferson nickel. I found one todaybut can't remember what was supposedly special about that year. HELP AN OLD MAN'S MEMORY!

2.6 million minted. Not valuable, just more than most. Some other dates are more costly in a high mint state.

It's a low-mintage coin;uncirculated goes for around $15.00 and is considered a key date.

Just to be clear, we are taking about the 1950-D, not the 1950.

Yep, 1950 D is one of the keys.

i know the 50 D is the key, but I also know I would never spend a 1950 P nickel. I remember even back in the early 70's it was hard to find a 1950 P in circulation.

That's what it was I was trying to remember! The 1950D part. Thanks!

Is it true that the 1950D nickel was worth more in the 50s and 60s due to a higher demand?

I dont know about the '50, but deffinatly in the '60s-'80s. These were massively hoarded.
It's leveling off abit recently.

The price of my first BU 1950D nickel - back in the 70's - was 9.00. Seeing current ebay prices of 7.50 - I think they have lost a lot of value since 9.00 was a lot more money back then than it is now.
