Ok, I may be giving this one away by asking in here - but here is an ebay auction by a noob
that looks to good to be true. So, coming here to ask opinions of some more knowledgeable collectors
- a brand new Ebayer w/this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/12102795499....m1431.l2649

- well? Possible fakes, perhaps?

$6,000+ bid for a seller with zero feedback?

Make that...

Let me give you some perspective: I just decided not to bid on a (very fairly priced) $80 Buy It Now item, because the seller had 93.3% positive feedback.

Those 12 bidders (at the current time) are braver than I am!

Not seeing anything that screams fake ..

But the seller has Zero feedback .. and the current price seems high to me.

I would not buy coins of this price from a seller with zero feedback

The item probably is real from what I can see, but its still weird that its the first sellers item. Theres scams like that were they just never ship the item. I would definitely advise anyone with something like that to sell to sell some things around the house first and at least build up some feed back

The set does have the one ASE I don't have but I do agree with the rest that it is hard to have faith in a zero feedback seller.

I see, am not the only one who might be leery of this item then . . .
what a way to jump into ebay!

I see the majority of these items going for $7G, or thereabouts - my only ASE to go for as well, but quite an
investment there. No mention of insurance either, really - 14 days money back, but seller could be long gone by then.
Possible stolen item, even? Who really knows . . . ?

There are bidders listed w/hundreds of prior dealings though -

I'm with DNA, 98% makes me pause. I doubt I'd risk $60 with this seller much less $6k. And 25 bucks shipping...

If you are asking the question, I would pass. Intuition is not something to be ignored, IMHO

Those sets are few and far between. And the ASE is as we know the KEY to any ASE collection. I think people are willing to take a chance for the opportunity. It's a lot of money, I wouldn't

And who puts up a very rare, very valuable, very sought after and expensive coin set as their very first item on ebay. This set wasn't cheap in 1995.

Came out @ about $995 or thereabouts fron U.S. Mint - had I known @ that time, certainly would have made the purchase. Better investment than the stock market, gold was under $300 an ounce back then too.

My guess is its an 18 yr. old seller having gotten into dad or grand-dad's collection - (check the id name of seller, age a giveaway?)

I can understand the bidding. Anyone who understands the seller conditions on ebay and Paypal knows there isn't a chance that seller gets his hands on the money before the buyer receives and verifies their purchase. Heck, Paypal is likely going to hold it for 21-28 days anyway, whether the buyer gets the items or not.

And Heaven help the seller if he doesn't ship the package with strong protection.

I'd bid. And I'd pay with a Paypal-linked CC, adding the option to dispute the charge should it come to that.
