Ive collected for over a decade since I was about 7. I thought it was about time I 2x2ed and logged my collection

The face value of the collection is £76.51 taken out of circulation. A lot of it is territories and etc, so not really commemorative - but hey, its all oddities.

My parents arent so happy about how much I've managed to pile up.

And I have 3 other £5 coins but they werent from circulation (believe it or not, I have got 1 from circulation).

Ben,
I used to try to circulate £5 coins in the same way that I used to circulate crowns (25p coins).
When they were available from banks, I got 10 and spent them where I could, then got some more etc.
About half the shops refused to take them.

Now, unfortunately, the banks don't stock £5 coins.

Banks stocked £5 coins!?

I hear heads of post offices can order coinage at face value. Make good acquaintances with that guy and you're in the money.

I just looked up the face value of my main modern UK circulating coins set (1 pence to £2) - £138.73 taken from circulation.

Post office no longer offers £5 for £5 either. Sometimes The Royal Mint does offer some £5 for £5.

My bank does! They hate me because every time I come accross a £5 coin that isn't in at least a/unc I bank it. Same with the one colour pre96 £2 coins.

The bank clerk just puts them in a draw because they aren't easily transferable to a major branch of the bank.

Which bank are you with, please ?

Perhaps their other branches have a similar enlightened policy.

I'm with Bank of Scotland. I'm in a very rural location too but can't speak for other branches

I've thought about it but the ones I bank are all well under EF with scratches etc.

Or better yet, when you have 250 posts, offer the £2 and £5 up on here at face value.

There are UK members on the forum who needs £5 coins for their own collection and for folks in the US.

At least two between you and me. Sure there are others who would be interested.

Trading is lots of fun, get to know people from all around the world and you end up obtaining coins that you did not even know about.

How The Royal Mint can make a 25p crown into a £5 disgusts me.AVOID.

Say what? The metal content and inflation was making it unfeasible. Why not change the denomination? 25p crowns are still 25p.

Don't know about you, but I find some of desgins of the £5 coins are better than the Winston Churchill Memorial five shilling coin.

Examples:
2004 Entente Cordiale between Great Britain and France 100th Anniversary
2005 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar
2009 500th anniversary of the accession of Henry VIII
2010 350th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Monarch

I think the rest of the pre and post-decimal crowns are all better looking than old winnie!
