I'm in at Chinese Counterfeit XF45 I REALLY wanted the first ever US Minted Coin and although George Washington didn't donate bullion to strike this one as much as Xiaohong donated some base metals to his cousin's illegal die press, I still like it You'll forgive my breaking the cardinal rule and owning a fake

That makes two of us Dave!
I had the opportunity to hold an NGC MS62 specimen at the Long Beach Coin Expo a few years back. $375,000 if I remember. Just holding that thing and looking at it under my loupe made my whole body shake. Dealer never took his eye off me!

Quote: I had the opportunity to hold an NGC MS62 specimen THAT'S all I want to do, hold one and look at it for a minute or two under a loop Amazing coin I'm happy to have my bootleg so I can handle one its a great conversational piece when company is over due to the story behind it and how G.W. donated the silver from his personal stash, didn't want his face on coinage like the King...GREAT story to our earliest coinage

At the risk of starting yet another war:
Counterfeits are a part of coin history. Sure, modern counterfeits are made to fool the collector. But contemporary counterfeits made to fool merchants are another story.
I now have a total of seven: six Barbers in various denominations, all common dates, which appear to be contemporary. A seventh, a 1799 dollar, is modern. All were purchased from the same dealer who was breaking up his personal set of fake coins. He said something pertinent to the topic: "I hope that there are no federal agents here."
Over the years, I have seen several dealers display counterfeit coins. All were not for sale. I jumped at the chance to obtain them to add to the documentation of my favorite series. The 1799, well, just to compliment the genuine example which I had purchased 15 minutes earlier.
Somebody has to have the intestinal fortitude to do so. I did so.
Should any member wish to report me to the federal authorities, I shall furnish particulars upon request.
Yeah, right! And proof coins grow on trees!
