While I was at work today, I opened a roll of toonies and saw this. In over 6 months of looking (in the cash drawer and in change, not roll hunting) this is the first one I have ever found. I haven't found the old style loonie yet. Have the official mintages of these been released yet?

I work at Walmart and I've found 4 within the past month or so.

No luck with 2012 Loonies though :(

Not yet. We most likely have to wait for the RCM's annual report.

the mintage figure for the old style toonies will be missleading, there is many produced but never shipped because the RCM decided to produce the new security toonies. only a small amount of old designs were shipped mainly in western canada.

I concur. Mintages will be misleading. I would bet a good supply of older 2012 loons and twoonies never even made it to a major distributing hub - remember the Brinks tractor trailer crash a little more than a year ago?

Looking at pictures of the spilled coins on google images, although not clear, the spilled coins appear to be the old style ones. And $3,000,000 spilled would be ~1,000,000 each of the loonie and toonie.

Like everyone else I have yet to find the loonie. I work in a convenience store and I've found about a half dozen of the toonies - but no loonies.
