Just think of how many dollars had to be created to ultimately make pennies worthless. The rest of the coins will follow. Seigniorage is irrelevant to paper (plastic money)!

As long as our American cousins are still minting Lincolns we will see the one cent coin around for quite awhile yet. I am sure going to keep using "pennies"

Well it was a long time coming, debating the issue since 1982 of retiring the penny was just a waste of time, it should have occurred long ago.

Now that its retiring so is my local LCS, seems they are going to become a hobby shop and ditch the Stamp and Coin monicker. This action makes me wonder how many years we have left before the bottom falls out of the coin collecting hobby.

Last night perusing the prices at Canadian Coin & Currency their sale prices are pretty big. Some of the 50 cent pieces are 1/2 off from last year, as well its not limited to just the 50 cent coins. It makes me wonder about the entire industry here in Canada, I received about 5 emails for the Auction by The Canadian Numismatic Company on February 16th. That just seemed desperate.

I for one am happy.

I've never collected pennies and most of the pennies I have are on the floor of my car.

Collecting pennies is my thing, and I for one am going to miss seeing them in circulation. It's like saying good-bye to a long-time friend.
