Hello all,

I saw beaten up 90% coins @ a jewelry store. Is $23.5 a fair price for $1 face value?

Thanks

Current melt is $22.28 per $1 so you are paying about $1.25 premium. That is a little over a 5% premium. Many on this site will say they buy below melt. I usually end up paying right around melt. If you are also going to be charged tax then you are paying too much.

As of right now, should be more like 22.30 per dollar. Plus around here retail establishments charge sales tax on top of that. I would shop elsewhere.

Depends on how much you're buying...

In the ball park. If it is convenient (no shipping) I'd buy from them until I found a cheaper competitor.

Credit card transactions will soon cost about the same percentage as you will pay over melt at that jeweler.

I agree it's a bit high with tax.. You could always try talking them down a little bit... Can't hurt.

Have you tried a local coin store to compare to? When I buy near melt that is for half dollars in EF/XF condition. I would not pay a premium for well worn coins.

I have never paid under melt. I said many on here say they can get it under melt. I went on to say I usually pay melt. I pay a premium anytime I can find EF Walking Liberty's. There are a couple sites that give melt value. I have tried to list them but am not allowed to. I check those sites and that is what I pay at the LCS. I buy 2-3 rolls of halves at a time so that probably helps. Again, I have never been lucky enough to buy under melt. I only buy inperson, I don't play the ebay game of late night bidding.

If all you are buying is a dollar or two, the price is exactly what I'd expect. You can play around on ebay and get it cheaper but you are paying for the convenience of direct retail, instant receipt, and being able to purchase a small amount.
