A few months back, I bought one of these for around $4.95 + shipping. I wasn't expecting much because it was so cheap.

As a teenager, I somehow came in possession of a small projector lens that served as a high power magnifying glass when looking through backward. I kept it for 20 or so years and have missed it many times since loosing it. I've priced many different glasses through the years since as well as projector lens's. You know that type of optical equipment can cost a lot.

I saw this 'trinket' on the web, said what the heck, got one, and I've got to tell you it's really something. Powerful as the lens I used to use but has a light. Cheap junk? Maybe, but I just bought 5 more so I'm set if I bust this one. Mostly plastic but some metal. I recommend highly.

Mods, I looked at the rules before posting and hope I'm OK with the link. Still learning here.

I found some at RadioShack for $6. High priced indeed for such a tiny battery.
I was looking at RadioShack.com.au which linked to jaycar.com. Maybe those guys?

Hmm. I may need to try this route. Right now I'm still learning coin photography, but this may help boost the quality of my photos.

Batteries are simple - get them on ebay. There you can find them in sheets holding up to 100. I have this same magnifier (just got another one) as I had some extra ebay bucks. But the first one I got off of ebay was only a buck - now they are up to 2.50 or so. The caeds of batteries are normally a buck also.

I suspected the batteries would be cheap and not last ling b/c of price - but so far this has not been the case.
