Do any of you collect the entire set of Chinese panda's?

I think the set starts in 1989, I love the design but they seem expensive relative to ASE's. opinions?

Thanks,
Ron (ronaldb112)

Hi Brian:

I bought a couple for my grand daughters, but never though about a set for me, I think I am going to start one. How are you storing them as there is no Dansco Album for them.

& I just received a 5 & 20 cent Australian coins from a CCF member, so going to apply for membership in the Knights Of The Coin Table.

Thanks,
Ron (ronaldb112)

Some of them are extremely high, but worth it. Several of the years were very low mintage. My wife has a collection of them. I just bought her a set of the 1/2 oz 25th anniversary set of Pandas, they were a little over $400.
She has hers in Airtites and in an airtite box that holds 20 in individual display cards. check out this site

I've been buying them for the past 3 years or so. I have the 05, 06, and 07 silver rounds. I think I have ten of each. When I get around to it, I'm going to look into the gold one. Pricey, but absolutely beautiful.

Sorry for the late comment, but I think it's time for a contest TS. You will certainly run out of storage room if you continue to collect this many of each...

I tend to get carried away in most things I do. When I run out of space I was thinking of adding an extension.

Not for me.

WARNING: Political statement follows

I will never be able to avoid "made in China" and I'm not sure it's worthy of an effort, but I'm not going to be buying something produced by the Chinese government.

Just as Krugerands were not for polite company during Aparthied, I would encourage people to think twice about lending tacit approval to the PRC's rulers.

texas, you raise a good point and stir some mixed feelings for me. I'm not familiar with all of the evils attributed to the Chinese government, but I know there are some bad dudes over there. I still think the Pandas are great collectables and will probably keep buying them. I don't think one has to look to long and hard to find alleged atrocities perpetrated by any government. Where do you draw the line? Then again, this whole tainted pet food incident does have me pretty peeved.

I like this series a lot and have recently started collecting them. They are bit expensive and hard to find, since they appear to have been minted rather erratically in quantity (the series kind of started in '83 with undersized coins of 27g - not a full troy ounce).

I think people have a lot of different perceptions of China. While I don't agree with everything their goverment does, I would say it is worth the effort to learn more about the people, the history and the culture before making a judgement about what it is really like there and why it is the way it is. This is, after all, one of the reasons we all collect coins - to understand more about where they come from.

I read somewhere recently that the currency a nation creates represents the aspirations of the society that produces them, and I prefer look at coins in this light.

Oh, and be glad you didn't feed your pets any spinach last summer : )

This turned into a nice coin topic, I received the 2007 Panda, a beautiful coin.

This weekend I ordered a 2006 Panda & a 2007 Aussie Koala, a first of this type. Look on the Perth Mint site for this beautiful coin.

& in another world coin club that I belong to, this weekend we have a contest "guess the country", the moderator, gave a series of clues & after 3 days, I guessed the country & as a prize I will be getting a world coin proof set. When I get back to Chicago, this weekend. I'll post the country.

Have fun,

Hello folks,

I have been investing in them for the past few months. I have several gold and several silver. I am told that their return will be good in about 10 yrs. I am also told that the gold and silver Australa, Canada, UK and Singapore are good investment. The Chinese FUWA (about $35US) is also suppose to be a good investment but only sold IN China (so far). It comes in partly gold and is for the Olympics. Too many to invest into. But, we shall try. Good luck to you all.

GOD Bless

Drdave

I enjoy the Panda series because the design changes every year. I see more and more government mints starting to think along that line in an effort to keep sales up. It also, like it or not, creates a one year type and that makes it a very unique collectable in my mind. Now Australia has started the silver Koala and I intend to keep up with that as well as my favorite Kangaroos!
