I picked up a couple new ones for my type set this weekend. Here is an 1833 Half Cent that still has a lot of luster remaining (you can see it in hand, not so much in the photos). High points have some wear. Where would this grade?

I'd put a VF35 grade on this one. Great coin .

I was torn between VF35 and XF40 myself. The eye appeal on this one is superb!

This coin is nice because the surfaces are so clean and have a nice color. I don't think it has the definition in the curls to make it an XF though.

This coins details may be weak due to a weak strike. If you look at the rim of the obverse, you will see no wear, the denticles are still well defined and some details of the stars are still present. Evidence of a weak strike can be found on the reverse, where it looks to have been misaligned during the strike or a bad planchet as shown by the rim lacking denticles and detail from 12-2 o'clock positions. There is also very little wear, if only slight rubbing, on the face.

Having only pcgs photograde as a basis of comparison at the moment, this coin certainly blows away the VF35 example, and, dare I say, the XF40 example. There is too much detail, luster and a lack of contact marks to be any lower than XF40. I might revise up to XF45 with an off chance at AU50 if strike weakness is considered.
