Picked it up for $5 - I will tell the story after I get your opinions. Is this AG3 or G4? My photos are not the best however I can tell you that Liberty is now where to be found on the band. The dark spots on the obverse are from pitting but not as obvious in hand as in the photos. I also would like an opinion on the S to make sure I am not seeing things. My plan for it is to bring it to the April coin show in my area and see if I can apply it towards a trade.

I would go with G4. My only concern is the second A in America.

Wow - what a find for $5. Would you take 6 for it? :-). I agree with the G-4. The S is marginal but apparent. Very nice find for this key date. Can't wait to hear the story.

I am happy with a G-4 grade. IndianGoldEagle pointed out the tie-breaker: rim separated from letters. $5? You could easily have paid $6 for it and still have gotten a good deal! "Yes, it is an "S." What kind of a trade are you thinking about? An upgrade or a different coin all together? Not confused. Just wondering.

The least little indentation, shown by arrow, tells me it is an "S." A "D" is straight without indentation. Members: agree or disagree?

I'd have to agree with you.

Here is my example. I was told by a specialist that it was a nice "S." And I paid a LOT more than $5 for it!

I am good with G4. Backstory: About a year ago, I was playing around on Proxibid and told my hubby I wanted to try my hand at V nickel lots. I had finished my V nickel collection (complete with my cracked out 1886) and was hoping for some upgrades. This was part of a lot I bought in February of last year. I glanced through them, picked out the ones I wanted in my 2nd generation Whitman board and forgot about the rest. Must not have noticed the S mm on the 1912. Fastforward to yesterday morning - wanted to get things organized before the SuperBowl, mom coming over, cabinets must be neat. Took out the loupe, yelled and wouldn't tell hubby why. Put loupe in his hand and asked "What MM?" "S. That's good, isn't it?" I paid about $5 per coin for the lot, this must have slipped through. I am planning on improving my "in-hand" skills on Oregon commemoratives and who knows, this could be part of that trade in April!

Hmm. $100 coin as part of a $5 lot. Yeah, I could live with that.

I think it makes a full G4 grade also.
