The other coin picked up for my type set. 1867 Shield nickel with one wicked die crack. There is also a slight crack on the reverse on top of "Of America". I couldn't pass this one up, the die crack was too cool. How would this grade? Plenty of luster still on this one.

Ooooh. Snap, crackle, pop. The obverse looks to be a near-retained Cud, maybe strong enough to affect the strike. I'm no good with these, but if it's seen any circulation at all, it's darn little.

There is a small Cud on the obverse at 1 o'clock position. There is also one on the reverse at the 3 o'clock position and the break trails in the E in America. I honestly have no idea where to grade this. I was operating under AU55 when I bought it, but I don't see any wear and no luster appears to be lost. I think this is at least an AU58, but the absence of any chatter in the fields makes me think it could get into MS easily.

If there is any wear its an AU58, if its just the strike weakness I'd go MS62. That is a great coin with mucho character!

Very nice die cracks! I have to agree with the consensus that this may be uncirculated.

That is a great coin. I have no idea how die cracks factor into a grade, but I don't see any wear on it. I would pay for the site alone. Well worth whatever you paid for it. It would be front and center in my collection.

Looks like a RPD and a pretty nice die crack around the legends (of America) on the reverse as well!

I am thinking MS since I don't really see any wear but if there is any, then AU-58. Do you or anyone else know what caused the rough looking patches on the reverse? Some really nice die cracks!
