Astronomic FS Jefferson Nickel Values?

numismo Rest in Peace United States 3039 Posts	Posted 02/02/2013 3:41 pm I just saw the PCGS price guide for Jefferson nickels. A 1961D MS65 FS is listed at $27,500. Many others in the 60s and later decades carry quite lofty values. Are these attainable coins or price estimates if some are ever found? Report this Post to the Staff

Apparently some of these dates are non existent with full steps. I would think, going by what was said over there by members who have very high ranking registry sets, that if some of these dates did surface with legitimate full steps in high grade that you can throw the price guides out the window. ghostrider Pillar of the Community United States 1116 Posts	Posted 02/02/2013 5:50 pm To my limited understanding there are two types of full steps, either 5 or 6. That plus not all TPG's recognize both classes of full steps. Myself, I try and get the 5 step variety mainly because not only is an easier class but it is also an inexpensive variety. To me both of these classifications are really at the top of the grading curves. It is much like full bell lines in Franklin halves. I really don't see how a grade of 69 or 70 can be attained without either full bell lines or full steps. Each of these classifications start with a perfect mold and good dies. From the population numbers you can readily see the difficulty in attaining this status. Report this Post to the Staff
