When first of snowflake coin was issued in 2007, the mintage was 5,000. It was raised to 10,000 in the next year because it's so popular. Two years ago RCM killed this series by raising the mintage to 15,000. Now it's turn for growing in dark dinosaur. Mintage has grown to 30,000. Sooner or later this series will die too. I hope RCM won't do the same on the glass bug series, otherwise they had better prepare some new short-life series.

The mint doesn't care as long as they sell out

Most mints around the World, for their NCLT coinage, try to mint as many as they can sell within a given period they set for themselves, for maximum profit.
Their marketing strategy, packaging and number struck are geared to their first two judgements.
Previous marketing success is a factor in assessing their judgement for future issues.

Not so much greediness but to maximise profits. There is a wide grey fuzzy dividing line between them.

One of the advantages of collecting NCLT is there is a lesser probability of fakes.
Two of the disadvantages are the the rarity of any issue is controlled by the Mint, and there is less opportunity for after market re selling for profit at a later date. Usually, the Mint has better marketing strategies than the collector / investor.

^^^^^^^^^^

Which greatly affected the secondary market for the bumblebee coin. It never did as good as the first coin.

The increase of 5000 units for the 2nd Dino coin is not too bad. If they had double the mintage of the glow in dark coin, the second coins certainly will drop in value.

I think 5,000 mintage for a 1oz silver coin and 1,500 for coin set is considered rare

Wouldn't they sell out faster if they made the mintage lower? Problem solved! Modern coin rarity! Numismatics revived! No... Swarovski coin - mintage 30,000...

There are more and more coin collectors now then there was several years ago. I have met a lot of people that just started collecting recently when the 20for20 started. With the increase in interest, there is a natural increase in demand. RCM sees the demand as opportunity to make money and hence mintages increase.

Nothing a normal business won't do. Years later, 10k mintages maybe today's 5k limited runs.

yea. it seems to be a trend to have a lower mintage on the first coin of the series and then to raise it for the later coins...like what they did with the $20 for $20 silver coins. the first maple leaf one had a mintage of 200 000. I noticed when I bought the later coins in that series...that they raised the mintage to 250 000.

there is around a 100 1921 50 cents pieces, thats kinda rare, you might see 1 or 2 for sale at a major auction, but a mintage of even 1500 is not rare.

Do you all think they will double the mintage for the next venetian glass coin? from 10000 to 15000 or 20000.

I think they'll leave the mintage at 10,000 for the next Venetian bug. IMO
