I just picked this up over the weekend. It shows some scrapes, probably from a cleaning at some point

Any thoughts on a grade for this one?

The 1916 D is the prize, 1916 is not a rare date. This looks to be in VG/VF condition, but you can tellk it has been dipped or harshly cleaned. There is zero luster left.

$5.00 maybe ?

edit: typo on the date ....

AU detais cleaned. Still a nice looking example with a good strike. Now if there was only a D mintmark on the reverse!

Thanks denco7!

I know it's a common date - I paid just over melt so I'm not feeling too ripped off. The scratches near the I and R on the obverse are a bummer. Still, there's some good detail in the wings on the obverse and in the horizontal, vertical and diagonal bands on the reverse. I was thinking XF details.

And you mean 1916-D as the key for this series.

Unfortunately no matter how nice the details are, it is a common date, harshly cleaned coin and no one is going to take it seriously. Nice pick up as an album filler though. And you can't beat the price.
