I bought this the other day and it is in a blue holder graded by ANACS. Maybe an older holder? I was wondering if there is anything special. There is a lot going on in this coin. Oppinions please, and let me know if you need pics of a particular area. Sorry some of the pics are not to great. Thanks in advance!

benchfreak221,

Have you attempted to find this die pair over on VAMWorld? There are over 111 different die pairs for the 78-S. To make it easier, they sort by some key features. Yours has a complete 'r' in Trust and a broken 4th right star on the obverse (looks like it to me). It has a short arrow nock so you can elimate 26, 27, 56-60, 62 and 72.

Go to the VAMWorld site and click on Morgan VAMs by date and then the 1878-S. There is a hyperlink on the page that will sort these by the features listed above.

Give it a try first and then come back with questions or if you need clarification. Oh, btw ... you may become addicted!

Happy Vamming!

p.s. - The blue ANACs holder was the generation just prior to the current yellow holder. They converted about three years ago.

I looked on VAM world and all of the 1878 S VAMS were long nocks, not short. So I'm guessing its nothing special

I think you were on the wrong page. The first nine listed on the main page are long nocks. The remaining 101 are not. Here's a link for the 1878-S non-long nocks (presorted by the features I mentioned)

I agree, there are a lot of 1878-S VAM's that are not Long Nocks so you had to be on the wrong page. SeatedNut gave you some of the best ones to try and match up with your coin because of the "trust" and if the 4th star is broken (can't really tell by the photos on here). If the 4th star going from the right side of the date when you are looking at it is broken I would try and match the attributes with the ones he listed above to see which one matches your coin because it should be one of those
